Says West Virginia Families and Jobs are a Target of the Climate Tax, Encourages All WV Lawmakers to Sign the Pledge Also
Inwood, WV – Delegate Jonathan Miller proudly signed the “No Climate Tax Pledge” last week. Americans for Prosperity, the group responsible for the pledge, applauded Miller on his action Monday.
In a press release issued from Washington, Americans for Prosperity said, “The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today applauded West Virginia State Delegate Jonathan Miller (53rd District) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” By doing so, Miller joins over 160 lawmakers on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.” Other West Virginia signers include: State Senator Frank Deem and State Delegate Craig Blair.”
“I’m proud to be a No Climate Tax Pledge Signer, and I am proud to be joined by Delegate Blair and Senator Deem. I also encourage every single other West Virginia lawmaker to sign it,” stated Miller.
The Delegate continued, “West Virginia families and jobs are threatened by big government programs like the cap and trade scheme supported by President Obama. Preciously proposed cap and trade legislation would result in a $1.2 trillion tax increase, the largest tax increase in our nation’s history, on citizens and businesses. This massive tax increase is targeted right at our state’s major resource-coal.”
“Our families and jobs stand at the center of the cap and trade target. Coal mining has helped grow our state’s economy, providing good paying jobs for tens of thousands of West Virginians. Increasing taxes on coal will devastate our families that depend so much on mining coal to put food on the table,” said the Republican from the Eastern Panhandle.
Delegate Miller concluded, “As Americans for Prosperity says, ‘All elected officials should agree that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses’. No matter where you stand in the global warming debate, no one should desire to destroy the lives of working men and women and the children they provide for each day. Unfortunately, the cap and trade scheme will do just that.”
The pledge is available online at NoClimateTax.com. AFP does not endorse candidates. All elected officials and candidates are encouraged to sign the pledge and go on the record in opposition to using the climate change issue to increase taxes and grow the size of government.
Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the nation’s premier grassroots organization committed to advancing every individual’s right to economic freedom and opportunity. AFP believes reducing the size and scope of government is the best safeguard to ensuring individual productivity and prosperity for all Americans. AFP educates and engages citizens in support of restraining state and federal government growth, and returning government to its constitutional limits.
