Chicago Daily Observer: Rep. Mark Kirk signs AFP’s No Climate Tax Pledge

December 2, 2009

.

Americans for Prosperity of Illinois announced today that they’ve been successful in getting Congressman Mark Kirk to sign a pledge to “oppose any legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue, unless it is offset by tax cuts equal to or greater than the revenues generated.” Kirk joins over 280 other lawmakers nationwide that have signed onto AFP’s Climate Tax pledge.

But Kirk’s promise indicates a flip from his support of the US House Cap and Trade vote earlier this year. Illinois Review will publish his explanation as soon as we receive it.

In the meantime, Joe Calomino, Illinois’ state AFP director, says he’s very pleased that Kirk has made the commitment.

“The one thing elected officials should all be able to agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses,” said Calomino. “We encourage all of Illinois’ elected officials and candidates for elected office to sign.”
