Tri-City Herald: Didier lauded for anti-climate tax stance
February 23, 2010
Free-market proponents Americans For Prosperity today praised U.S. Senate candidate Clint Didier of Pasco for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.”
Didier is one of 386 candidates and lawmakers who have signed the pledge, which promises to oppose climate change legislation that includes a “net increase in government revenue.”
“The one thing elected officials should be able to agree on is that global warming shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hike taxes on citizens and businesses,” said Phil Kerpen, AFP vice president for policy. “We encourage all of Washington’s elected officials and candidates for elected office to sign the pledge.”
The group opposes cap-and-trade legislation that would cap carbon emissions and allow companies to buy emissions allowances from the government. AFP describes cap-and-trade as a tax on coal, oil and natural gas on its website.
Former pro-football player Didier is running as a Republican against Democratic incumbent Sen. Patty Murray.
Sean Salazer, a Seattle chiropractor also running for Murray’s seat, also has signed the pledge.
Only one elected lawmaker — State Rep. Dan Roach, R-Bonney Lake — has signed.
